"To say that Jubilate! is a group of talented people that embodies a faithful, loving and welcoming spirit would be a huge understatement. Their music radiates these attributes so strongly that experiencing them live is an absolute must."

OUR MISSION

Jubilate!, pronounced "yü-be-lä-tay", meaning "Shout for Joy", is a spiritually diverse service choir that takes music to those who need and love it, free of charge. We share God's word and glorify Him through music.

OUR HISTORY

Born out of a desire to share the gift of ‘a cappella' choral music with the Boulder community, and to grow musically under the directorship of a gifted and inspiring director, Jubilate Sacred Singers, a service choir which performs, began in 2002. With an initial membership of 30, they pledged their resources and accepted the challenge of learning an extensive and varied repertoire that could be tailored to a range of venues. The choir sings primarily ‘a cappella' choral music, and rehearses and performs without accompaniment.
Within a few months of contacting potential venues, a weekly performance pattern developed that continues today. The groups for whom Jubilate! sings are three-pronged:

1) Churches: perform concerts and services several times a year.

2) Under-served populations: perform frequently for residents at retirement centers, hospitals and hospice facilities.

3) Community outreach: through collaboration with community ensembles or non-profits, Jubilate! raises awareness and funds for local causes with concerts:

Jubilate! performs a major concert each year, tours and recordings every other year, and commits to a tour or professionally recording.
Jubilate! does not charge for its service, but survives financially through member and individual support, local grants and voluntary support from organizations. Through their efforts, the members of Jubilate! bring quality, and free musical performances to Colorado Front Range residents almost every week of the year.

             OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Sue Wedaa Sue Wedaa, the Artistic Director of Jubilate Sacred Singers, was born in New         Jersey, long before "Jersey Girls" were a thing! Her family moved to California, where she was raised and developed her love of music at an early age.

Beginning with piano lessons at age 7 and transitioning to flute and alto saxophone in high school, she developed an interest in voice while playing in the pit orchestra for a college production of The Barber of Seville. Fascinated by the singers onstage, she immediately found a voice teacher, began studying voice with Karla Kniss in Huntington Beach, California and joined the college opera chorus.

Her vocal studies continued at Cal State Long Beach before she eventually transferred back to the east coast, and completed her vocal training at SUNY at Buffalo, studying vocal technique and choral conducting with Sylvia Dimiziani and Dr. Harriet Simmons, specializing in 20th Century American art songs.

Sue sang with various organizations, including Five Penny Opera, Golden West College, Cal State University Long Beach and as a church soloist in southern California, and the Broomfield Symphony here is Colorado, before finding Jubilate Sacred Singers.

She has been the music director at the First United Church of Arvada since 2005, as well as assistant director for Jubilate, and continues to share her love of music with everyone she meets and considers learning a lifelong affliction.

Sue has an Associate of Science Degree in Animal Health, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Anthropology and Geography from California State Polytechnic University. She also teaches flute and voice privately in her home studio, and in her quest to never stop learning, is now studying the viola with Alex Vittal, and loving every minute of it!
